Liriodendron tulipifera
The Tulip Tree is a large, fast-growing tree that can reach heights up to 35 m. In the spring, it produces beautiful yellow-orange flowers that resemble Tulip flowers. The unique leaves are large, alternate, and usually have 4 lobes with smooth margins. They are waxy and bright-green in colour, turning to an attractive golden yellow in the fall. The spring blooms provide nectar for Hummingbirds and bees and the seeds provide a food source for other species of birds and small mammals.
Tulip Trees prefer full sunlight conditions and require normal to moist soil that is deep and rich in nutrients. Young trees require plenty of water during the growing season.
